Have you ever been in a workshop or roundtable where the exercise is to say/write/share a few nice things about yourself?
<Uggh!>
I know. I used to feel really self conscious when asked to think of myself in any kind of positive light. On the other hand, I used to find it perfectly natural to come up with criticisms for just about any part of my existence.
If we want to live confidently, we have to address HOW we’re thinking about ourselves.
This week I invite all of you to take the “3 Nice Things About Myself Challenge”.
It’s easy.
Right now, think about 3 good qualities that you already have.
They don’t have to be world-class skills or talents. In fact, it’s better if you keep them simple.
You can say something like, “I can make a really good piece of toast”, or “I know three chords on the guitar”, or “I have a nice smile”, or “I love dogs”.
You get the idea.
Watch out for the impulse to qualify or judge what you come up with. (Yeah, but anybody can make toast…).
Write these three things down (or better yet: say them out loud to yourself). Say them to yourself several times throughout your day. If you want to take this challenge to the next level, say these three things with a smile.
Notice how you start to feel differently about yourself.
