What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a powerful state of focused awareness where the natural healing capacities of your subconscious mind are enhanced.
Also known as a “trance”, it is a state that we all experience at least twice a day: that open, spacious, dreamlike feeling you get before falling asleep and just before waking.
We also go into trance whenever we are focused on a particular activity like driving, reading a good book, or getting “lost” in a captivating movie.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the process of using hypnosis to align your conscious intentions, wishes, and motivations with the intentions, wishes, and motivations of your subconscious mind.
Some of the techniques and strategies employed in your personal program of hypnotherapy may include positive suggestions and affirmations, memory regression, parts therapy and subconscious conflict resolution, trauma resolution and healing, past life regression, entity clearing, and connecting with resources such as your Inner Guide and Higher Self.
Successful hypnotherapy has three basic requirements:
1. Focused awareness
2. Following instructions
3. Playful curiosity and a willingness to change
Can you make me “cluck like a chicken” while in hypnosis?
The short answer? Only if you want me to!
Popular culture and stage hypnotism have led us to believe that the hypnotist (or hypnotherapist) is somehow “controlling” people. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The only reason participants in stage hypnotism shows do those funny things is because they want to. There’s a part of them that thinks it would be fun to act silly in front of an audience.
The fact of the matter is that “all hypnosis is self-hypnosis”. You are always in control of the process. I am simply a guide, kind of like your co-pilot on a journey of your choosing.
In addition, I can’t make you do anything against your will, morals, or ethics while in hypnosis. Even if I tried, you would either automatically come out of the trance or simply refuse the suggestion.
Will I be awake while in hypnosis?
Hypnosis is not a sleep state. You will be completely aware of what is going on for the duration of your session. You may even feel more aware of what’s going on around you and within you than in normal consciousness.
You will also be able to move your body if you need to, as well as speak and interact with me for the entirety of your session. In fact, verbally sharing your experience is essential when doing any kind of therapeutic work. It makes the experience more vivid and the results much more powerfully healing.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. Like I mentioned before, it’s a completely natural state that is characterized by feelings of physical and mental relaxation and wellbeing.
There is absolutely no danger of not being able to “wake up” after entering hypnosis. You are totally in control during the entire process and can choose to come out of trance whenever you want.
How do I choose a hypnotherapist?
There are many hypnotherapists to choose from out there. That’s good news for you!
Take your time to find the person who is right for you. Check up on their credentials and read through the material they have on their website. Most hypnotherapists offer some kind of free initial consultation. Take advantage of this. Schedule an appointment, share your goals, listen to their suggestions, and most importantly trust your intuition.
